One of the things we enjoy most, is when we are genuinely surprised by the ingenuity of postal services, when it comes to innovative stamp designs. And recently we have been lucky enough to be blessed with a range of wonderfully innovative designs from all around. 

2023

We want to share the joy with you, so today we are highlighting four great new issues, which are all quite unique! We start out with this great issue from Belgium. This wonderful souvenir sheet consists of five different stamps, each of which celebrate the Belgium tradition of the fry stand. 

The souvenir sheet itself comes in the form of a cutout, which can be folded into the shape of a fry stand. When assembled, the souvenir sheet is quite decorative, and would definitely be a great addition to almost any collection.

The next stamp comes from Austria, and when it comes to innovative stamps, the Austrian postal service takes prize. They are always pushing the boundaries of what can be done in terms of stamps, and the stamp below is no different. The stamp is designed as a sweater featuring the design of a penguin surrounded by snowflakes and fir trees, creating a perfect Christmas sweater - although it might be slightly too small to wear. The textile effect is achieved by printing the stamp on flocked paper.

The third stamp is also from Austria, and although it is completely different, it is no less innovative. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Austrian Federal Railways, the stamp below was created. The stamp is part of a souvenir sheet, and the blue sign at the bottom of the souvenir sheet is designed to resemble the signs found at all train stations in Austria. The souvenir sheet is created in more than 1000 variations, as it is available with names of all the Austrian train stations at the bottom. 

The stamp itself is identical across the variations, and it depicts various trains from the previous hundred years of service. The souvenir sheet is made from recycled acrylic glass, and the blue signs have a magnetic coating on the back, allowing you to put your new Austrian train station sign on your fridge - or add it to your model train track. 

2022

The final stamp today comes from Armenia, and this is the first embroidered stamp to come out of Armenia. The stamp is embroidered in a style that mimics a local type of carpet, with a fixed pattern. The design of the dragon carpets incorporate a symbol of eternity at the center, surrounded by eight stylized dragons. This is a great way of displaying both innovation and deep traditions - it is truly amazing. 

The stamp is fully embroidered and has self-adhesive backing, with the fringes of the carpet doubling as stamp perforation.
